Abu Dhabi Launches Energy Efficiency Accelerators to Power Greener Industries

Abu Dhabi Department of Energy sustainability initiative launch

Abu Dhabi’s Department of Energy launches Energy Efficiency Accelerators to help 100 factories cut costs, save resources, and support Net Zero 2050 goals while boosting industrial sustainability and competitiveness.

The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) has just flipped the switch on something big: the Energy Efficiency Accelerators in the Industrial Sector initiative. The goal? To help 100 factories and facilities across the emirate sharpen up their energy and water use, cut costs, and shine as sustainability champions.

A boost for Abu Dhabi’s Net Zero vision

Launched under the Abu Dhabi Energy and Water Efficiency Strategy 2030, the program aligns perfectly with the UAE Net Zero 2050 Strategic Initiative. Instead of piling costs onto businesses, it hands them expert technical evaluations—basically a sustainability health check for factories—that reveal where savings can be made.

Efficiency that pays back

His Excellency Engineer Ahmed Al Falasi, Energy Efficiency Sector Executive Director at DoE, explained that the initiative is more than a checklist—it’s a “strategic instrument” to make operations leaner, greener, and more competitive. Think reduced utility bills, better-performing machinery, and an edge in global markets, all while lowering emissions.

Who’s in the spotlight?

The program zeroes in on energy-hungry sectors:

  • Construction materials
  • Food & beverages
  • Metals (a huge one—over 51% of electricity use in non-oil industries!)
  • Paper industries
  • Rubber and plastics
  • Chemicals and pharmaceuticals

Step-by-step transformation

Facilities go through a three-level assessment journey:

  1. Level 1 – Quick on-site visit to spot glaring inefficiencies.
  2. Levels 2 & 3 – Deep dives with tailored recommendations.

So far, 12 facilities have completed the process, and another 14 are underway. The target is 50 by the end of 2025, with the rest wrapped up in 2026.

Why it matters

With industries worldwide under pressure to cut emissions, this program positions Abu Dhabi as a model of environmental distinction and economic competitiveness. In other words, it’s not just about going green—it’s about leading the way.
