DP World Women’s Cycling Race 2023

The DP World Women’s Cycling Race, a spectacular Al-Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve event, left a trail of excitement and awe. With 300 dedicated female contestants competing in three distinct distances – 70 km, 40 km, and 15 km – the event celebrated strength, determination, and camaraderie.

The 70 km Warriors

1. Akvil Gedratiti: A German powerhouse, Akvil Gedratiti claimed the top spot in the 70 km open individual category (18 to 29 years old) with a remarkable time of 01:49:18 hours. But the victory was not without suspense, as her compatriot Olivia Ballicetti secured the 2nd place within a fraction of a second’s difference. The Australian Madison Black showcased incredible talent to secure the 3rd place in this intense race.
2. Ghaya Al-Mahrazi: In the 70 km locals’ category, Ghaya Al-Mahrazi reigned supreme, clinching 1st place at 01:55:15 hours. Moza Al-Mansouri followed closely, securing the 2nd place within a fraction of a second’s difference, while Shaikha Al-Zaabi completed the podium with a time of 02:05:36 hours.
3. Carmen Bosmans: The 70 km open individual category (30 to 49 years old) witnessed Carmen Bosmans, a German athlete, dominating the field with a winning time of 01:52:45 hours. The Filipino Angel Jadlock claimed the 2nd place within a fraction of a second’s difference, and the Danish Helle Bachoven Von Echt secured the 3rd place.
4. Sarah Brown: For the 70 km open individual category (50 years old & above), British cyclist Sarah Brown displayed remarkable stamina and secured 1st place at 02:07:58 hours. The American Nettis Linton clinched the 2nd place with a time of 02:25:36 hours.
5. Dubai Police: In the fiercely competitive 70 km team category, Dubai Police emerged as champions for the second successive year, followed by the AirRex Cycling Team in the 2nd place and the Al-Wathba Cycling Team in the 3rd place.

The 40 km Challengers

1. Maria Babinina: In the 40 km open individual category (18 to 29 years old), Russian cyclist Maria Babinina demonstrated her prowess by securing 1st place at 01:04:24 hours. It was a closely contested race, as the Filipino Maria Cristina Danak and the British Hannah Roach finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively, within fractions of a second’s difference.
2. Farah Al-Marri: The 40 km locals’ category saw Farah Al-Marri claiming 1st place with a time of 01:06:58 hours. Hala Mohammed followed closely, securing the 2nd place within a fraction of a second’s difference, while Khawla Al-Muhairi completed the top three with a time of 01:06:59 hours.
3. Ruba Helani: In the 40 km open individual category (30 to 49 years old), Syrian cyclist Ruba Helani displayed exceptional skills to gain 1st place at 01:06:43 hours. The Portuguese Tania Rodrigos secured the 2nd place within a fraction of a second’s difference, and the British Carly Martin took the 3rd place.
4. Pamela Fox: The 40 km open individual category (50 years old & above) witnessed Chilean cyclist Pamela Fox emerging victorious with a time of 01:21:17 hours. The Filipino Dina Sarmiento secured 2nd place with a time of 01:34:39 hours, while the Filipino Leonella Rosal finished 3rd with a time of 01:36:40 hours.
5. AirRex: In the 40 km team category, AirRex stood at the pinnacle with a time of 01:06:07 hours, followed by the Al-Wathba Cycling Team in the 2nd place with a time of 01:06:58 hours, and Spence Club securing the 3rd place with a time of 01:14:17 hours.

The 15 km Sprinters

1. Mai Channing: The 15 km open individual youth category was conquered by British cyclist Mai Channing, who claimed 1st place with a remarkable time of 26:08 minutes. Filipino Angeline Claire secured 2nd place within 28:13 minutes, and Emirati Mira Al Falasi took 3rd place with a time of 30:06 minutes.
2. Khawla Omar: In the 15 km open individual adults’ category, Emirati cyclist Khawla Omar showcased her skill and determination by securing 1st place with a time of 28:15 minutes. Filipino Rona Tangilon claimed the 2nd place within 28:57 minutes, while Serbian Sonja Arakovic secured the 3rd place with a time of 31:43 minutes.
3. Al-Wathba Cycling Team: The 15 km team category saw Al-Wathba Cycling Team clinching the 1st place, followed by DP World in the 2nd place and Dubai Police in the 3rd place.
