Step into a world where poetry becomes protest and music becomes a movement. Kavan is an operatic satire, performed entirely in verse and song, capturing the coming-of-age journey of Bejul — a young man drifting through dreams, dilemmas, and the deep undercurrents of India’s caste realities. As the lines between right and wrong blur in a rapidly changing nation, Bejul transforms from a silent observer into a political poet, finding his voice in the powerful tradition of resistance art.
The performance fuses Shahiri folk protest music from Maharashtra with folk, electronic, rock, and rap, creating a sonic landscape that’s as layered as the society it reflects. In Marathi, Kavan means songs of the resistance — works meant to be performed, not read; to be felt, not merely understood.
Brought to you by Yalgaar Sanskrutik Manch, a collective born from Babasaheb Ambedkar’s vision of cultural reform, and supported by Nalanda Arts Studio, Kavan is more than theatre — it’s an invitation to see yourself as a citizen, an observer, and a participant in shaping the world’s largest democracy.
