Here is the honest summary of the petrol pump in 2026: it has been a rollercoaster with a very expensive final hill. October brings another steep jump, so it is worth knowing exactly what a fill-up costs before you pull into the forecourt. This guide is the one page you can bookmark for Abu Dhabi. We refresh the prices at the top every month and the rest stays useful all year.

How Much Does a Tank Cost in Abu Dhabi?

Prices per litre are one thing. What you actually feel is the number on the screen when the pump clicks off. Many saloons hold around 50 litres and plenty of SUVs take 60 or more, so here are both. Check your own tank size in the manual for a precise figure.

Fuel gradePrice per litre50 litre fill60 litre fill
Super 98AED 4.40AED 220.00AED 264.00
Special 95AED 4.28AED 214.00AED 256.80
E-Plus 91AED 4.21AED 210.50AED 252.60
DieselAED 4.80AED 240.00AED 288.00

For a sense of the October jump, a 60 litre fill of Special 95 cost AED 221.40 in September at AED 3.69 a litre. It now costs AED 256.80, which is AED 35.40 more for the same tank. If you burn about 240 litres a month (roughly four full 60 litre fills), Special 95 now comes to AED 1,027.20 a month against AED 885.60 in September.

Why Petrol Costs the Same in Abu Dhabi as in Dubai

If you have ever wondered whether a cheaper pump lurks one emirate over, sadly no. UAE petrol and diesel prices are reviewed monthly by a national committee chaired by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, and the result applies across the country. Since August 2015 the UAE has followed a deregulated model that tracks global oil prices, which is why pump prices now move with Brent crude rather than staying flat for years.

The announcement usually lands in the last days of the month and the new rates apply from the 1st. In late September 2026 the committee raised Super 98 from AED 3.80 to AED 4.40. Reporting by The National linked the rise to crude jumping again in September, with Brent nearing 110 US dollars.

ADNOC and Other Petrol Stations in Abu Dhabi

In Abu Dhabi, ADNOC Distribution is the name you will see on most forecourts. It is the UAE’s largest service station network and sells all four grades covered here: Super 98, Special 95, E-Plus 91 and diesel. ENOC and EPPCO stations are spread across the UAE, while Emarat is concentrated mainly in Dubai and Sharjah, so in Abu Dhabi ADNOC is the brand you will meet most. Whichever brand you use, the per-litre price is the same.

The ADNOC Distribution app is worth installing on day one. According to ADNOC it supports Mobile Pay at the pump, and the app also offers an ADNOC Wallet and ADNOC Rewards points on spending. ADNOC also lists Fill and Go (vehicle recognition at selected stations) and Smart Tag as other ways to pay without fumbling for a card. Availability varies by station, so check the app’s station finder if you rely on them.

Which Petrol Grade Should You Choose?

The numbers in the names refer to octane rating, which is a measure of how well fuel resists knocking in the engine. Higher octane does not mean more power by magic. It means the fuel suits engines that are built to use it. ADNOC describes the grades like this:

  • Super 98: the premium grade, aimed at high-compression engines and performance cars.
  • Special 95: the everyday choice for medium-compression engines.
  • E-Plus 91: the economy grade for low-compression engines and fleet vehicles.
  • Diesel: for diesel engines only, and never a substitute for petrol.

The rule is simple. Use whatever your manual or fuel-flap sticker says. Going higher than recommended rarely helps and costs more. Going lower than recommended is where problems begin. At today’s rates, Super 98 costs 12 fils a litre more than Special 95, or AED 7.20 extra on a 60 litre fill.

Expert tip: Check the inside of your fuel flap before you change grades. If it says 95 minimum, 91 is not a saving, it is a gamble with your engine. If it says 91 is fine, you are paying for octane you cannot use every time you buy Special 95.

Petrol Price Trend in 2026

The table below shows monthly prices per litre for the three petrol grades this year.

Month (2026)Super 98 (AED)Special 95 (AED)E-Plus 91 (AED)
January2.532.422.34
February2.452.332.26
March2.592.482.40
April3.393.283.20
May3.663.553.48
June3.953.833.76
July3.403.293.21
August3.603.493.41
September3.803.693.61
October4.404.284.21

In plain English: February was the cheap seat, with Special 95 at AED 2.33. Prices then climbed sharply from April, dipped in July and have risen every month since. October is the highest of the year for all three petrol grades. Special 95 is up AED 1.95 a litre from February, which turns a 60 litre fill from AED 139.80 into AED 256.80.

Diesel is AED 4.80 a litre in October, up AED 0.50 from AED 4.30 in September. That takes a 60 litre diesel fill from AED 258.00 to AED 288.00.

For perspective, this is not the all-time peak. In July 2022, Khaleej Times reports, Super 98 hit AED 4.63 and Special 95 AED 4.52, so October’s rates are still 23 fils and 24 fils below those records for the same grades.

How to Save Money on Petrol in Abu Dhabi

  • Use the ADNOC app for rewards. The app lists ADNOC Rewards, with up to 3 points for every dirham spent. Small, but it adds up over a year of fill-ups.
  • Buy the grade your car needs, not the one that sounds impressive. Dropping from Super 98 to Special 95, where your manual allows it, saves AED 7.20 on a 60 litre fill. Over four fills a month that is AED 28.80.
  • Keep tyres properly inflated. Under-inflated tyres increase rolling resistance and burn more fuel, and Abu Dhabi heat makes pressures drift. Check them monthly when cold.
  • Stop circling for parking. Cruising for a bay burns fuel for nothing. Our guide to free parking in Abu Dhabi covers when and where you can park without paying.
  • Do the toll maths. If your commute crosses a toll point, factor it in alongside petrol. Our Darb toll guide explains the fees and timings.
  • Leave the car at home sometimes. For airport runs or city hops, our guide to getting around Abu Dhabi compares taxis, buses and the train against a full tank.
  • Combine errands. A cold engine uses more fuel, so one longer loop beats three short trips.

Expert tip: Set a fill-up reminder for the last week of each month. Prices are announced in the last days of the month, so if a rise is on the way you cannot beat it, but if a cut is coming you can wait for the new rate instead of filling on the 29th.
