Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi Celebrates Women’s Month

SUAD marks International Women’s Day with a series of initiatives throughout the month, including research and mentorship programmes, Umm Kulthum tribute concert, and artistic showcase!

Okay, picture this: you’re walking through the grand halls of Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, and suddenly the air feels different—like it’s humming with fierce feminine energy and Beyoncé-level vibes. That’s because March isn’t just about spring blooms or plotting your next getaway—it’s Women’s Month, baby! And SUAD isn’t playing small. Oh no. They’re rolling out an entire series of dazzling, inspiring, and power-packed initiatives all under the unapologetically bold banner: ‘For ALL Women and Girls: Rights, Equality, and Empowerment.’

Yep, it’s not just a day—it’s a full-blown empowerment extravaganza. Let’s break it down.

Women + Research = World Domination (Almost)

First up, SUAD is giving a megaphone to those who have something meaningful to say about women’s rights, voices, and legacy. They’ve launched a Call for Proposals—basically a golden ticket for scholars, artists, and researchers to flex their brains and hearts. Got an idea that could rewrite gender norms or spotlight a forgotten trailblazer? Bring it on. If selected, you’ll get funding, mentorship, and an academic cheer squad rooting for you. From digital archives to performances that slap, these projects are all about amplifying HERstory in fresh, bold ways.

Proposals close on April 15.
Launch? September 2025.
Your move, change-makers.

Enter: Umm Kulthum – The Original Queen of Soul

You know you’re iconic when your voice stops time—and Umm Kulthum was that icon. This March, SUAD is throwing a heartfelt tribute to the diva who practically defined Arab musical excellence. And guess what? Their Oval Room (yes, the one that sounds like it belongs in a palace) will now proudly carry her name. She’s joining the likes of Marie Curie and Simone de Beauvoir. No big deal.

To seal the deal, a soul-stirring tribute concert by the magical Ghalia Benali is happening on April 16. Expect goosebumps, nostalgia, and maybe a tear or two. Sponsored by Abu Dhabi Mall and patroned by Nadine Kaaki Al Nowais, this one’s going to be chef’s kiss levels of epic.

Art, But Make It Feminist

Hold onto your berets, because the ‘Lumières de Femmes’ exhibition is turning SUAD’s Atrium into a gallery of goddess-level greatness. Featuring 23 French and Francophone women artists—plus a spotlight on local talent Khulood Al Jabri—this exhibition is like Pinterest for your soul. It’s bold, it’s beautiful, and it’s all about celebrating women’s creativity, resilience, and sass through paint, photography, and mixed media magic.

Swipe right on this exhibition before it ends on March 29. It’s a date with brilliance.

High Heels Meet High Impact: Women@Dior & UNESCO

Move over, runway—SUAD’s got students strutting into boardrooms and global leadership programs. Five fabulous women from SUAD have been selected for the ultra-glam, super-smart Women@Dior & UNESCO programme. This isn’t just about wearing Dior (although, hey, we wouldn’t mind that)—it’s about building the next gen of women leaders with access to mentorship, sustainability wisdom, and next-level career support.

And because this isn’t your average student club, they’re also jumping into the Dream for Change Project—a real-world initiative to boost gender equality and create social ripples that matter.

The Bottom Line

As Chancellor Professor Nathalie Martial-Braz puts it (and she’s clearly got that wise-goddess energy): education and research aren’t just academic—they’re revolutionary. And this month, SUAD is walking the walk, celebrating legends, supporting present-day game-changers, and investing in the leaders of tomorrow.

So whether you’re an artist, a student, a feminist fangirl, or just here for the vibes, Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi is your March moodboard. Women’s Month isn’t just a hashtag—it’s a movement, and it’s happening right now.

Because when SUAD celebrates women, it doesn’t whisper. It sings. Loudly. With a mic drop.
