Sphere Abu Dhabi moves closer to construction with agreements finalized, aiming to become a global entertainment hub like its Las Vegas sibling.

Abu Dhabi’s skyline is about to get a glow-up.

The futuristic Sphere Abu Dhabi project has officially inched closer to reality, with the parent company sealing agreements for construction and development of the dazzling venue.

According to James L. Dolan, executive chairman and CEO of Sphere Entertainment Co, the project is now in its preconstruction phase, working hand-in-hand with the Department of Culture and Tourism — Abu Dhabi (DCT).

“Our goal is to design and operate a venue that’s busy 365 days a year with multiple events on most days,” Dolan said during an earnings call.

A global vision: From Las Vegas to Abu Dhabi

The Abu Dhabi project will be the second Sphere in the world, following the iconic Las Vegas Sphere, which opened in 2023 with a capacity of nearly 20,000. In its first year alone, it pulled in over 24 million visitors.

The UAE’s version is set to become a landmark not just for concerts and live events, but also a year-round entertainment hub designed to rival global icons.

Why it matters for Abu Dhabi

  • Boosts the city’s cultural tourism portfolio alongside Saadiyat Island’s museums.
  • Positions Abu Dhabi as a global entertainment destination.
  • Brings an architectural icon that could rival the Burj Khalifa in Dubai for international attention.

The design and business model also includes smaller-scale spheres, hinting at an expanding global network that may eventually dot skylines beyond Vegas and Abu Dhabi.
