Moroccan rhythms and contemporary hip hop come together in Näss (People), a powerful dance performance by choreographer Fouad Boussouf at The Red Theater, The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi.
Inspired by the legendary Moroccan musical group Nass el Ghiwane, the performance explores the connection between North African musical heritage, ancestral traditions and the urban energy of hip hop. Seven male performers take the stage in a hypnotic movement ritual, blending traditional Moroccan influences with contemporary urban dance styles. 🇲🇦🔥
The choreography creates a constantly evolving group dynamic, with each dancer bringing his own movement style, physical strength and energy to the performance. The result is an intense and immersive experience that connects cultural roots with modern expression.
Drawing on the sounds and spirit of 1970s Morocco, Näss explores themes of identity, heritage and the enduring power of music and movement. The performance lasts 57 minutes, followed by a 30-minute Q&A, giving audiences an opportunity to engage further with the work and its creative vision. 💫
The performance is suitable for audiences aged 10 and above.
