A Disney Theme Park Is Coming to Abu Dhabi!

A Disney Theme Park Is Coming to Abu Dhabi!

Disney is bringing a magical new theme park to Yas Island, Abu Dhabi—get ready for immersive fun and iconic experiences!

If you thought Yas Island couldn’t get any more magical — think again. Because guess who’s flying in (probably via pixie dust and a Gulfstream jet)? That’s right, the House of Mouse is moving into the neighborhood, and it’s not coming quietly. Disney has just announced its seventh global theme park resort, and it’s setting up shop in none other than Abu Dhabi. Cue the fireworks, folks — we’re officially getting our very own dose of Disney dreams in the desert!

Now before you start rehearsing your “Let It Go” solo or building your Millennium Falcon cosplay, let’s break it down. This mega project is a partnership between Disney and Miral (the UAE legends behind Yas Island’s top attractions), with Disney’s iconic imagineers bringing the creative muscle. While Disney won’t be footing the bill — Miral’s got that covered — they will be sprinkling their signature magic over every inch of the design and operations. Translation: It’s going to be epic.

Not Just Another Theme Park… This Is Disney, Reimagined

We’re talking waterfront views, futuristic tech, themed hotels, immersive dining, and interactive experiences so advanced they’ll make your lightsaber look like a glow stick. Disney CEO Bob Iger called this project a “thrilling moment,” hinting at a park that’ll fuse Abu Dhabi’s rich cultural flair with Disney’s storytelling genius. Think Cinderella meets sand dunes… or maybe Simba sipping karak?

While there’s no official opening date yet (sad face), Iger hinted it typically takes five years to build one of these dreamscapes. That gives you just enough time to save up, book your vacation leave, and teach your kids the entire Disney catalog in order of emotional devastation (looking at you, Bambi).

Why Abu Dhabi? Because It’s Basically the Center of the World

Seriously. Disney did the math and realized that one-third of the world’s population lives within a four-hour flight of the UAE. Add in 500 million potential visitors, and suddenly you see why Abu Dhabi makes perfect sense for Disney’s next fairytale headquarters. Plus, Yas Island is already stacked with brag-worthy attractions — Ferrari World, Warner Bros., SeaWorld, F1 racing, massive malls… and now, Mickey and the gang are rolling up to take it to the next level.

What’s in It for Us?

Imagine strolling through themed lands built right next to the Arabian Gulf, sipping on a Mickey-shaped date milkshake (we made that up, but Disney should do it), staying at a Frozen-themed hotel, or watching fireworks dance over Yas Bay. Oh, and don’t forget shopping. You know Disney’s going to unleash retail therapy like never before.

Josh D’Amaro, Disney Experiences’ head honcho, promises this park will be

“This groundbreaking resort destination represents a new frontier in theme park development. Our resort in Abu Dhabi will be the most advanced and interactive destination in our portfolio. The location of our park is incredibly unique – anchored by a beautiful waterfront – which will allow us to tell our stories in completely new ways. This project will reach guests in a whole new part of the world, welcoming more families to experience Disney than ever before.”

So go ahead — block your calendars for 2029-ish (just in case), brush up on your Disney trivia, and start stretching for those theme park queue marathons. Mickey’s coming to town, and it’s going to be nothing short of Abu-magical.
