Reaching Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Rail station just became much easier—and thankfully, it no longer needs to feel like a journey before the actual journey.
Abu Dhabi Mobility has launched two new bus routes, MR1 and MR2, connecting Mohammed bin Zayed City Train Station with major bus stations across the capital. The services operate in both directions, helping passengers travel to and from Etihad Rail without relying entirely on a car or taxi.
In other words, fewer transport puzzles, smoother connections and considerably less “How exactly do I get to the station?” panic.
Where do the MR1 and MR2 buses go?
The two routes connect the Etihad Rail station with important public transport hubs in Abu Dhabi:
- MR1 connects Mohammed bin Zayed City Train Station with Abu Dhabi Main Bus Station.
- MR2 connects Mohammed bin Zayed City Train Station with Al Zahiyah Bus Station.
Both services operate in either direction, allowing passengers to reach the station before their train and continue into the city after arriving.

The schedules include weekday and weekend departures, with buses timed around Etihad Rail arrivals and departures. Passengers should check the Darb app or Abu Dhabi Mobility’s official platforms for the latest timings before travelling.
Because nobody wants to reach the platform just in time to watch their train leave. That is a level of drama best kept for television.
Making Etihad Rail easier to reach
The new routes form part of a wider effort to connect the UAE’s passenger railway with existing public transport.
Etihad Rail is working with local transport authorities to coordinate buses, taxis and other services with its train schedule. The aim is to make the entire trip feel connected—from leaving home to reaching the final destination.
That last part matters. A fast train is excellent, but passengers still need a convenient way to reach the station and get somewhere useful after stepping off it.

Abu Dhabi to Fujairah services are already running
Etihad Rail launched the first phase of its passenger operations on June 30, 2026, connecting Mohammed bin Zayed City in Abu Dhabi with Al Hilal City in Fujairah.
The introductory route offers six journeys every day:
- Three services from Abu Dhabi to Fujairah
- Three services from Fujairah to Abu Dhabi
The wider passenger network is scheduled for its next major inauguration on September 30, 2026, bringing additional destinations into the national rail system.
For now, the Abu Dhabi–Fujairah service gives passengers an early taste of what travelling across the UAE by train will look like—comfortable, practical and refreshingly free from motorway traffic.
There is also a Dh10 Etihad Rail shuttle
Passengers looking for a more direct option can use Etihad Rail’s dedicated shuttle service between Mohammed bin Zayed City Station and three major Abu Dhabi locations:
- ADNOC Headquarters on Corniche Road West
- ADNEC Centre
- Reem Mall on Al Reem Island

So, whether you are coming from the Corniche, heading out after an event at ADNEC or attempting to escape Reem Mall before buying something else, there is now a straightforward connection to the station.
What happens when passengers reach Fujairah?
The journey has also been planned at the Fujairah end.
Al Hilal City Station opened with several onward transport options, including:
- A rental car desk
- Taxi ranks
- Ride-hailing pick-up points
- Public bus connections
Etihad Rail has said more rental car partners will be introduced across the wider network in the coming months. That should make it easier for passengers to continue towards hotels, homes, beaches and other destinations without standing outside the station wondering what comes next.

MR1 and MR2 might sound like two simple additions to Abu Dhabi’s bus map, but they solve one of the biggest questions surrounding any new railway: how do passengers actually reach it?
