Princess Elizabeth ascended to the throne at age 25 when her father, King George VI, died on February 6, 1952. However, she has officially crowned Queen Elizabeth II at age 27 on June 2, 1953.

Queen Elizabeth II’s actual birthday is April 21 but she celebrates a second birthday in June because royal birthdays are celebrated twice if they don’t naturally fall in the summer.

She had to save up ration coupons to pay for the materials to make her wedding dress.
